18-year-old student fatally shot near Southeast Side school

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
An 18-year-old man died after he was shot in the chest Friday afternoon in the South Deering neighborhood near Banner Academy South, according to police.
The man, identified as Terrance Wright, was shot about 3:40 p.m. near East 99th Street and South Yates Avenue after leaving school, said police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan, citing preliminary information. Police say he was shot in an apparent botched robbery.
Paramedics took the man in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva said. Wright died at 4:31 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Area South detectives are investigating. Two suspects are in custody.
