Some parents at North Atlanta High School plan to urge school board members to delay a vote on Superintendent Erroll Davis' contract. The parents say the way Davis removed North Atlanta High School's interim principal is at the heart of their concerns.
Students and parents have expressed discontent following the abrupt removal of interim Principal Mark Mygrant.
FOX 5 news has learned a growing number of parents are now engaged in a letter-writing campaign to delay Davis' contract extension based on the way things were handled at the Buckhead school. The contract extension is scheduled to be voted on by the Atlanta Public Schools Board on Monday.
"The way things were done. Charges of racism behind all this don't add up with the people that we know that were behind this. One thing that nobody understands is why it was done the way it was done," said Chandler Rudd, a trustee for the North Atlanta High Foundation.
Rudd wants school board members to launch an independent investigation into why Mygrant and other members of his administration were mysteriously removed.
Many parents agree.
"Create an investigation team that can be given the latitude to explore any charge or concern to their fullest and develop an honest assessment , what happened, where we are and give the nine board members the tools they need to determine where we go from here," said parent Jim Brown.
But North Atlanta parent Jacki Labat says that while an investigation may be good, she believes all of this turmoil detracts from student learning.
"The focus on Erroll Davis right now and his contract is not beneficial for North Atlanta," said Labat. "My issue is distributing the educational wealth, so to speak, across all four SLC's so that every child up here can have a great experience."
APS board member Nancy Meister sent a letter to the school board chair earlier this week also asking for a delay.
Meister represents the North Atlanta district and says her constituents have lost all trust in Davis.
