Hot Topic: Diamonds or a gift card?

If you think getting a gift card for your significant other will get you in trouble this holiday season, think again. 

According to an American Express Publishing and Harrison Group survey, 34 percent of female shoppers who are married or living with a partner said they actually want to receive a gift card this holiday season, but only 11 percent of them are likely to get it.

If you're looking to play it safe this year, buy her jewelry. About 30 percent of women surveyed said they want jewelry for the holidays, and 27 percent of them are likely to get it.
