Posted: Updated:

More than 1,200 Georgia students took a special field trip on Thursday to Centennial Olympic Park to hear an important message about staying drug free.

Georgia's Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Department hosted its annual "Red Ribbon Campaign" kick-off.

The program at the park's amphitheater included dancing, singing and stepping.

The keynote speaker was Atlanta Braves Pitcher Brandon Beachy, who urged students to make good choices. Beachy told the student's he's seen more than his share of ball players get sidetracked by substance abuse.

Organizers say intervening now with this message of drug prevention can spare these students a struggle with drug abuse as adults.
