Ga. Supreme Court suspends lawyer for 18 months

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -

The Georgia Supreme Court has barred a Lawrenceville attorney from practicing law for 18 months.

The state supreme court handed down the punishment against Christopher Adams more than five years after a FOX 5 I-Team investigation.

Adams admitted collecting tax money for indigent defense, even though he didn't really do the work or sometimes even meet with his clients.

Adams avoided prosecution by paying back the money and agreeing to let the Supreme Court decide his punishment.

Even when he returns to practice law in 2014, Adams is banned from representing indigent clients.

Some lawyers said the punishment was too soft.
