Councilmember wants city to cancel airport contract

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

An Atlanta city councilwoman wants the city to cancel a controversial airport contract that some have called a conflict of interest.

The contract in question deals with the management of all taxis, shuttles, and limos at the airport.

FOX 5's I-Team investigation found the man with the contract, Darrell Anderson, owns limousines and also runs the airport's downtown shuttle business. So Anderson is essentially managing his own limo and shuttle business, as well as his competitors.

Recently, the I-Team obtained a city consultant's report that found this arrangement "leads to the perception of, if not a real conflict of interest."

Following our report, Atlanta city councilwoman Felicia Moore on Monday introduced a resolution to cancel the taxi, shuttle management contract and rebid it.

Moore said that she believes there is a conflict of interest.

The city is putting the downtown shuttle business, now controlled by Darrell Anderson, out to bid.

The city says based on the consultant's findings, the wining shuttle bidder cannot simultaneously control the curbside management contract.

Darrell Anderson is a family friend of Mayor Kasim Reed and a partner with the Mayor in a real estate investment.

Both men have said the mayor had no involvement in any of Anderson's city business.
