Why Plant Now?

  • Fall is truly the best time to plant trees, shrubs, and perennials.
  • Planting now while the temperature is mild allows plants to establish before the summer heat
  • Planting now requires less watering

How to Choose a Shrub

  • Sun Requirements -- Full Sun: location receives 6-8 hours of full sun each day; Partial Sun: 3-6 hours of sun a day, usually in the late morning to the early afternoon; Partial Shade: sun is filtered, usually by leaves and foliage, and peek through for most of the day; Shade: area receives less than 3 hours of sun and is shady for most of the day.
  • Height -- Get a general idea of what height the plant should be. Is it going in front of a window that you don't want to block? Is it in the back of the garden and should provide some privacy?
