Savannah adds bicycle valets to annual park event

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, Ga. -

A group that promotes bicycling in Savannah is offering an unusual service at an event this weekend -- valet parking for fellow cyclists.

The Savannah Bicycle Campaign will offer the valet service for free Sunday during the annual Picnic in the Park. The event draws large crowds to historic Forsyth Park for food, wine and live music and parking spaces for cars can be hard to find.

Volunteers for the bicycling group are offering to rack the bikes of picnic-goers and take care of them until the event ends.

Savannah officials have been encouraging residents to use bicycles to get around more often. The city has added more than 150 bike racks downtown in the past three years.
