Savannah's city manager resigns her position

SAVANNAH, Ga. -

Savannah's city council has accepted the resignation of its city manager.

Savannah Mayor Edna Jackson had asked for Rochelle Small-Toney's resignation. The Savannah Morning News reports that Small-Toney submitted a written resignation shortly before a special city council meeting on Thursday.

The council then voted 6-3 to accept her resignation.

The council also voted unanimously to name Assistant City Manager Stephanie Cutter as the city's acting city manager.

Some council members have questioned whether the city's budget situation for 2013 is more severe than they have been told.

Council members late Thursday morning were meeting in an executive session to discuss terms of the resignation and how to proceed.
