Movie studio fills jobs with metro Atlanta residents

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

A metro Atlanta area movie studio has given local residents a great opportunity to work on the big screen!  EUE/Screen Gem Studio has expanded, and they've hired residents to fill their openings.

On an average day, about 300 people report for duty on the studio's Lakewood lot, which happens to be the hub of the entertainment world.  Regina Klines is the head of security at EUE/Screen Gem Studios, which is situated on the former Lakewood Fairgrounds.  No one can get on the lot without going through her.

Film, television and production clients like BET, FOX, Disney and Turner all call the lot home.  Klines is one of the hundreds of local residents who have found work in the entertainment industry.  Screen Gems has made it a point to hire locally.

Kevin Holder, another local resident, was working freelance for Turner Broadcasting when he got the call to head up Screen Gems' grip and lighting department.

But it's not just jobs that are plentiful thanks to Screen Gems.  Entrepreneurship is also brewing.  Decatur native Scott Jeffrey is the owner of Get Up Cup, which brews coffee for the casts and crews working around town.

EUE/Screen Gem Studios signed a 50-year lease with the city.  They benefit from a 30-percent state tax credit in addition to a sales and use tax exemption.

EUE/Screen Gems hires caterers, lighting and grip support, security and support positions. All talent, make-up, costume, lighting and grip, wardrobe and production positions are hired by the films and television shows on the lot.
