Car crashes into downed tree in SW Atlanta

ATLANTA -

Two cars crashed into a downed tree in southwest Atlanta on Tuesday.

Witnesses said the tree fell on Campbellton Road right in the path of a car around 5 p.m.

With live power lines everywhere and tree branches falling, Deborah Kemp and Norma Rollins said they ran straight in to help get the two women out of the car.

Police said nobody suffered serious injuries.

"By all rights they all should have been dead but the good Lord had his hand right there," said Rollins.

A big part of the tree ended up against Lawanda Sapp's home.

"It just looks bad. It's a lot of work, but it looks like it's just debris,," said Sapp.

Sapp said an unhealthy tree in her own yard kept the falling tree from crushing the house.

"That tree that I was going to get cut down saved the house," she said.

Georgia Power was working to restore electricity in the area late Tuesday.

SkyFOX 5 flew over another tree down on Peachtree-Dunwoody Road in Buckhead.

The tree also took down several power lines. Fortunately it didn't hit any homes or cars.
