MESA, Ariz. -

A Mesa couple has been arrested on numerous charges after allegedly shooting up heroin in view of their 3-year-old child.

Mesa Police were called to the home of Michael Richard Virginis and Mikae Marie Dunklin Sunday night on reports of someone with a gun.

When the officer arrived at the home to question them, he allegedly smelled the odor of heroin. Virginis then came out of the bathroom, where he was "shooting up" with his friends, according to police. Their son was in the other room.

Virginis admitted he was injecting heroin and that he sold heroin and occasionally methamphetamine. He said he used Dunklin's cell phone to arrange sales.

Dunklin told police she knew the situation was dangerous for her 3-year-old child, who had been inhaling heroin fumes and observing drug transactions, according to court documents.

During a search warrant, officers found 18 grams of heroin, 4 grams of meth, and drug paraphernalia and packing materials.
