DeKalb County to choose school calendar

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

DeKalb County school leaders will decide next Monday on a controversial new school calendar.

The first option is a traditional calendar, which the district has been following.

School would start August 12 and end May 23.

The second option is a balanced calendar, in which students would return to school August 5 and get out May 29.

The major difference is that there is an extra week of vacation each semester.

DeKalb is also considering letting students out one hour early once a week to allow for professional development for all teachers and administrators.
