CBP officers assist in baby delivery at Nogales port

Posted: Updated:

NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers have assisted in the delivery of a baby at a southern Arizona port of entry.

Authorities say a 19-year-old woman arrived early Monday at the Morley pedestrian gate in Nogales with a man who told officers that she was in labor.

CBP officers helped with the delivery until emergency personnel arrived from the Nogales Fire Department.

After medics examined the mother and newborn, the two were taken to Carondelet Holy Cross Medical Center.

The name and hometown of the woman isn't immediately available.

CBP officials say it's the second time in less than a week that a baby was born at an Arizona port.

On Sept. 28, a CBP supervisor at the Douglas port assisted in the delivery of a child.
