Philly Man Struggling To Get Replacement Tire For His Wheelchair

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Fox 29 is getting results for a Juniata man who's stuck at home while trying to get a replacement tire for the flat on his power wheelchair.

Bill Bush's "transportation" sits in the garage these days- gathering dust- and dog hair.

His power wheelchair has a flat tire- the latest in a string of flats- and for a 52-year-old with diabetes, vascular problems, strained ligaments and a bulging disc, that's trouble.

Bush never had a problem getting replacement tires for his Merits "Atlantis-1" chair- until about five months ago, when he called the local distributor and discovered they were out of business!

Bush says calls to Merits got him nowhere- just lists of other distributors who didn't have the tires he needed.

And so, he's stuck at home. Surely Fox 29 could get this problem solved.

I called Merits and got Bill the right number for him to call.

While he worked that end, I called an old friend. Andy Scolnick and the guys at 7th Street Medical Supply in Feasterville have helped us with wheelchair problems before.

They came through again and promised to help if Bush had any problems.

Merits promised to send Bush a replacement tire- and soon.

Thursday weather looks damp and stormy.  It will be mild and muggy to start with spotty showers early followed by afternoon and evening storms.  Highs in the upper 70s with winds out of the SW 5-10 mph. Some of the storms will produce locally heavy rain and gusty winds.

This system is from the same cold front that caused the midwest tornadoes. It will also usher in cooler air for the holiday weekend.
