Drivers lined up for some gas relief offered by a church in McDonough on Monday.
Turning Point Church shared the cost of gas with customers of the Chevron station on Georgia Highway 81 near Lake Dow Road. The cost was $2.69 a gallon after the program began at 5:30 p.m.
The church bought $2,000 worth of gas and served it first-come, first-served. Organizers said about 135 vehicles got gas before it ran out.
Yolie Lofton was among those who took advantage of the reduced price.
"I'm a single parent who's out of work, so, you know, it benefits me as well," said Lofton.
Motorists were also invited to join church for services.
"It's not a time for us to unpack the whole gospel and persuade them to believe like we believe, it's really just a time to show them that God loves them and God's a giver," Ben McDonald, the church's pastor.
This is the second time this year the church has helped pay down gas. The church's pastor says that the turnout was so great the first time that they wanted to do it again.
Church leaders said they plan on repeating the program in the spring.
