Opponents to new Walmart hold fundraiser for legal fees

DECATUR, Ga. -

Opponents of a proposed Walmart in DeKalb County are changing their tune, but they are not backing down. They are turning to music to take on the retail giant.

That is the plan as the group Good Growth DeKalb launches a series of fundraisers to stop the construction of a proposed Walmart at Scott Boulevard and North Decatur Road. Folks who attended the fundraiser benefit concert fear the world's largest retailer will hurt the surrounding community.

Walmart has promised the new store will bring new jobs, but opponents do not buy that argument. That is why the proceeds from the show Saturday will go towards legal fees to battle the big box store from opening shop.

Despite the on-going protests and this first of many planned fundraisers, Walmart and the developer are no commenting.
