Residents of the Virginia-Highland neighborhood in Atlanta are banding together to fight crime after a gun was pulled on a resident early Tuesday.
As they left their home for a walk, a couple said they spotted three suspicious men casing their house. One man was going around the home while another was ringing the doorbell. The couple said they were terrified because their two children were inside the house.
The husband told FOX 5 that while his wife ran to a neighbor's to call 911, one of the three men pointed a gun at his face and demanded his keys. The husband tossed the keys over the gunman's head, giving him a chance to get away.
No one was injured in the incident.
The entire neighborhood was immediately alerted about what happened through emails and texts.
"We received alerts throughout the day, to us know, hey, you know, police were at the house and this is what they did, these are the steps that they are taking," said Chris Geganto.
They say the use technology, good old-fashioned crime fighting and looking out for their neighbors is their way of fighting back against crime.
Neighbors say being kept in the loop keeps them vigilant and also provides a level of comfort.
