A DeKalb County woman is facing jail time for allegedly giving her baby a deadly combination of prescription medication.
A grand jury indicted Carlitha Hardy on Tuesday on involuntary manslaughter charges.
Prosecutors say she gave her 4-month-old a lethal overdose of several different over-the-counter medicines in November of 2010. The child overdosed on the medication and was transported to the hospital, first to Hughes Spalding, and then to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, where he was pronounced dead.
"There are a number of reasons why it could have happened, but the reality is that there is no good reason to give a 4-month-old any medication that's over the counter, particularly in this dose, and these were lethal doses," said DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James.
