A school district in Rhode Island has banned daddy-daughter dances because critics claim it discriminates against kids without fathers.
According to a report on foxnews.com, it all started last spring when the PTO at Stadium Elementary planned a so-called Me and My Guy dance. The organizer of the dance said they were careful not to call it a father-daughter dance, recognizing that times have changed.
A single mother of a 4th grader complained, saying the dance would exclude her daughter. The PTO offered to allow the mom to attend, but she went to the ACLU. That's when the school district decided to ban all gender specific events from father-daughter dances, to mother-son baseball games, saying they violate Rhode Island's gender discrimination laws.
