George Walton Academy football player passes out at practice

MONROE, Ga. -

Authorities in Monroe say a football player passed out during practice at George Walton Academy in Monroe on Monday.

Rescuers with the Monroe Fire Department were called to the school at around 3:51 p.m. after 13-year-old Jon Ross Snell lost consciousness. They say according to reports by the academy, Snell told his coaches he wasn't feeling well before he passed out.

Emergency officials told FOX 5 that Snell wasn't doing football drills before he collapsed.

Snell, a middle school student at the academy, was flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. He was  recovering from surgery on Tuesday.
