Authorities in Rabun County say human remains found by a county resident on September 15 have been identified.
Rabun County Sheriff Frank Andrews said the remains were found in the area of Bartram Trail near Darnell Creek at around 10:15 a.m.
Andrews said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Division of Forensic Science confirmed on Friday that the human remains were that of missing hiker Richard Arnold Masters of Kennesaw, Ga.
Masters was reported missing in July. Andrews said authorities do not suspect foul play, but the case remains under investigation.
