A Norcross woman is taking her 80th birthday celebration to new heights. Nancy Long went skydiving for the first time with her son.
Long, who turns 80 on October 5, said she doesn't feel a day over 40 and she has the lifestyle to prove it. She dances with the Senior Follies on cruise ships and went parasailing at 74. She said she won't let old age hold her back.
The mother and grandmother finished her doctorate at 68.
"I'm a licensed Christian counselor. I'm an ordained minister and I just recently got my chaplaincy certification. So there's always something. Something to do. There's a new horizon always," said Long.
Long's friend Rena Lill said skydiving was on her bucket list.
Rich Long, Nancy's son and a Gwinnett County police sergeant, jumped with his mother on Friday.
"She kind of has a philosophy that's ‘don't trade tomorrow for today. That's all you got. So whatever is to be gotten on with, get on with it because you don't know about tomorrow,'" said Rich Long.
Nancy said that she doesn't have any firm plans set for her 85th birthday, but is considering zip lining.
"Seniors can have fun. Just because you hit 60 or 70, the world doesn't end. There is something you can do. Don't give up on life. Go, go. Find something that you love and do it," said Nancy Long.
Nancy said the big jump was a thrill, but she won't be doing it again anytime soon. She said the one thing she does not ever see herself doing is bungee jumping.
