Police in Sandy Springs are looking for a driver of an SUV who they say struck and killed a woman in a crosswalk on Tuesday night.
Sandy Springs police say Lanzhen Pan, 67, was walking along Roswell Road and getting ready to cross Hightower Trail when she was struck by a SUV. Pan was taken to North Fulton Hospital where she later died.
In video released by Sandy Springs police, the SUV appears to be a dark-colored Chevy Tahoe with a white female passenger
wearing a white shirt.
Authorities say the SUV stopped briefly but then sped off down Hightower Trail, which ends at Cherokee Town and the Huntcliff residential community.
Pan's neighbors at Hellenic Tower -- many who walk the streets to get to and from the grocery store – said they are devastated.
"My mother lives in this building and there are a lot of elderly people that walk across the street. It's very dangerous. It's a very dangerous situation," said Tama Mobley.
Hiram Allen, 75, was hit himself earlier this year. The wreck hospitalized him, and he's been on a cane ever since.
"The lady hit me in the back and messed my spine up," said Allen. "My head went through the windshield…It's bad. You can't walk the streets no kind of way. These folks gone crazy."
Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call Sandy Springs police at 770-730-5600.
Pan is survived by her husband and an adult daughter.
