ATLANTA -

Emory University's rare books library has a new director.

Emory vice president and secretary Rosemary Magee has been named director of the university's Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library. Known as MARBL, the library preserves rare and unique materials of permanent research value and makes them available to the academic community.

Interim vice provost and director of Emory Libraries Richard Mendola said Magee has already been actively promoting the library and enhancing the collections.

She has served as host for a series of one-on-one public conversations with visiting writers. Magee has conducted "Creativity Conversations" on the origins and nature of the creative process with a wide range of international literary figures, including Salman Rushdie and Seamus Heaney, both of whose papers are at MARBL.
