COCHRAN, Ga. -

A sheriff's deputy fatally shot a Cochran man during an attempted arrest when the man allegedly pointed a gun at police.

Officials said two deputies with the Bleckley County Sheriff's Office were trying to arrest 31-year-old Rasheen Rahan Wright on Friday night. WMAZ-TV reports that a fight started, prompting one of the deputies to use a Taser on Wright.

Police said that when the electric shock from the Taser stopped, Wright pulled his gun and aimed at the deputy. The second officer then shot Wright.

He died of a single gunshot wound at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is examining the death, which is standard when police are involved in fatal shootings. Both deputies have been placed on administrative leave.
