A southwest Atlanta neighborhood is vowing to fight back after the murder of a college student
Timmy Ashley, 21, was shot last month as he walked home from a bus stop. His neighbors joined together Saturday to try to help find his killer.
The honor student has always impressed the neighbors he grew up around at the Reunion Place subdivision off Cascade Road. His murder stunned them.
It was late on August 22nd when a MARTA bus dropped him off near Cascade and Danforth roads after working a shift at his part time job at the airport. He was walking to his parents' house when two men approached him and demanded money. After robbing him, the pair shot him dead.
In the weeks since the shooting, his neighbors have begun to shift their focus from grieving, to finding the gunmen.
Sunday neighbors plan on going door-to-door in this area, trying to raise more money for a reward. They would like to get it up to about $5,000. They hope the larger reward will lead to the arrests, not to mention the closure to the Ashley family.
Police believe the men who shot Ashley may also be responsible for two other armed robberies in the area.
Anyone with information can call Atlanta Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
