Corn maze honors Chipper Jones

LOGANVILLE, Ga. -

A local fun park has found a way to pay tribute to a beloved Atlanta baseball player. All it took was 10 acres of land and a lot of corn.

At Corn Dawgs in Loganville, they're getting ready for fall season and that means tossing around a lot of hay. Though the pumpkins haven't yet arrived at the pumpkin patch and corn maze, the corn has and there is plenty of it.

"There is, there is. We have about 10 acres, approximately 10 acres," said Misty Durin of Corn Dawgs.

Corn Dawgs has plenty of offer visitors, including jumping pillows, a petting zoo and even a good zipline ride, but their biggest attraction has arrived.

Every year a corn maze is cut in an intriguing pattern. Last year, it was a tribute to Coca Cola's 125th anniversary. This year, owners Misty and Lamar Durin were trying to think of how to top that.

"Originally our plan was to do the voting theme because obviously this year is voting, and we couldn't come up with a design we liked. And so we decided hey, Chipper's retiring, we need to honor him and show our support for the Atlanta Braves, so that's kind of how we decided," said Misty.

They received a computer-generated image first, then constructed the maze based on the image. When the maze was complete, the Durins were astounded.

"If you look at the aerial photos, you may get an idea, but basically you just have to walk through 10 acres. It's a long ways, but it can be done," said Lamar Durin.

Visitors will get clues to help with directions, and bridges are being built so you can check your progress. Now, they're waiting to see if the real man in the maze will appreciate their field of dreams.

"We're hoping that he's really excited about it and wants to come out and take a look at it," said Misty.

Since the maze was cut before harvest, no actual corn was hurt in the creation of Chipper's corn maze. Corn Dawg's opening weekend is September 21 and 22 with a rodeo, and the corn maze will open for the season on the 23rd. For more information on the maze and Corn Dawgs, click here!
