Equipment worth $10K stolen from Atlanta water facility

ATLANTA -

City officials have confirmed to FOX 5 that someone drove off with thousands of dollars' worth of equipment from the Atlanta Watershed Department.

FOX 5 first highlighted security problems at the facility located on 14th Street several weeks ago. Sources indicate that the video security system malfunctioned again. Equipment worth $10,000 was stolen. It is suspected that the equipment was stolen for its copper.

Watershed Management Commissioner JoAnne Macrina had no comment when asked about the most recent theft.

In response to reports of inadequate security, FOX 5's Morse Diggs was taken on a tour of the facilities last month.

Atlanta City Councilmember Michael Bond questioned how a truckload of equipment could leave the facility without anyone noticing.
