Watershed management workers go to unusual measures to try to rescue a litter of kitten from a storm drain on Wednesday.
The kittens were discovered at Thurmond and Maple streets near the Georgia Dome by residents concerned for their safety. One of those residents, Gwendolyn Fears, is worries something bad will happen to three kittens trapped in the storm drain outside her Vine City apartment.
She saw the mama cat giving birth a few weeks ago and now she is worries that with the approaching rain Wednesday night, the small kittens may drown.
Watershed management spent hours Wednesday afternoon trying to rescue the three kittens believed to be around eight weeks old. Workers ran a camera up the line to try to see them. They even tried to use the camera to chase them out.
Residents say they first noticed the mother cat about six weeks ago going in and out of the sewer. They say just about everyone has tried to rescue them.
Friday, animal control was had their try followed by firefighters who also came out and couldn't get the kittens out. In the end, watershed management was not able to get them out either. They say there is nothing more they can do.
They hope that the kittens will be able to grow big enough to get out on their own soon.
