JACKSON COUNTY, Ga. -

A Jackson County man is facing charges after he allegedly shot his neighbor's dogs from his pickup truck. Stanley Lorenzo Sims was arrested last week on two counts of aggravated cruelty.

Animal control officials said that the trouble began when Allie, a yellow lab, and Max, a boxer, growled at Sims while on his property. The two dogs are owned by the Andersons, who live about 500 feet from Sims.

Sims, 48, reportedly went inside and retrieved a shotgun.

"Got in his vehicle, went down the road…shot both dogs once a piece out of a moving vehicle from the roadway," said Brad Richards of the Jackson County Animal Control. "He said the anger got the best of him."

It took officers nearly two months to arrest charge Sims.

"I think they should have arrested him and I think they should have filed charges against him that night," said Renea Anderson.

The Jackson County Sheriff's office says they followed standard procedure in handing the case over to animal control.

Animal control officials say the dogs' owner, Daniel Anderson, was charged with two counts of violating the leash law. They say Daniel Anderson paid $162.50 for allowing Max and Allie on their neighbor's property.

Sims is out of jail on $15,000 bond.

Renea Anderson says the two families have been friends for decades. She says she doesn't want her neighbor to go to jail but she would like him to pay her veterinary bills.

"I think the lesson learned today needs to be, you've got animals, contain them on your property and also don't let your anger get the best of you," said Richards.

The dogs survived the shooting and are still recovering from their injuries.

Jackson County's animal control says it's now up to the district attorney and a grand jury to take the case to trial.
