ALPHARETTA, Ga. -

Alpharetta police said that no charges will be filed in a case involving the discovery of a fetus in a freezer in a townhome.

The fetus was found by a cleaning crew inside a shoe box in the unit's freezer back on August 3.

George Gordon, spokesperson for the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety, said that investigators determined that the mother "had a miscarriage in the second trimester of the pregnancy" and placed the fetus in the freezer "because she did not have the financial means for a proper disposal or burial."

The case has been closed, Gordon said.
