Georgians head to Charlotte for DNC

Posted: Updated:

Dozens of Georgians, including representatives from Atlanta, are headed to Charlotte for the Democratic National Convention.

It's a year of first for 19-year-old Roswell native Chloe Houdre: first time voting, first time volunteering for a presidential campaign and first time attending the Democratic National Convention.

"There are going to be people from all over the United States, and just seeing how big this movement and this campaign actually is – we're going to meet people from everywhere," said Houdre.

The trip will also be a first for 63-year-old Glenn Acham. The retired public health official from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is volunteering five days a week for President Barack Obama's reelection campaign.

Acham is coordinating eight buses that will travel to Charlotte on Thursday to hear President Obama accept the Democratic nomination. Acham said that he expect the President to have a more substantive speech than Republican nominee Mitt Romney's speech last week at the GOP convention.

"I don't that there was a lot of real meat and potatoes. And that's the big thing, about points of where are they going to help the economy. Most of it was attacking President Obama," said Acham.

Houdre said that she was confident that President Obama can win reelection.

The Democratic National Convention begins Tuesday in Charlotte.
