According to the UK's The Telegraph, teachers there are allowed to fine parents when their kids miss school. Family vacations are the second largest reason for absences in the country, accounting for one in 10 absences.
Over 23,000 students are missing school every year, according to the paper.
The number one excuse for missing school -- illness.
