Bronze eagle sculpture stolen in Forsyth County

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga -

A bronze sculpture of an eagle has disappeared from a Forsyth County recreational area.

The giant eagle was taken from the Big Creek Greenway trail system.

"Tuesday morning our maintenance staff discovered that it was missing," said a Forsyth County official.

The sculpture was welded to a concrete pad at the head of the trail off Bethelview Road.  It was provided through a grant to provide art for the trail. The 400-pound eagle with an 8-foot wing span had been there since April.

County officials believe that someone stole it Monday evening or early Tuesday. They aren't sure if it was stolen as a prank or for the metal.

"It's my understanding from our parks and recreation department that his particular bronze was about 95 percent copper," said the official.

There is no surveillance footage of the heft.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.
