An art group plans to paint over a mural depicting a nude woman on a concrete wall in Atlanta after it drew objections from some residents.
Nathan Bolster, executive director of operations for the nonprofit Living Walls Conference, which commissioned the painting by Spanish artist Hyuro, says it will be painted over by next week.
The mural was created about two weeks ago on a decaying concrete wall near McDonough Boulevard and Sawtell Avenue, across the street from a federal penitentiary.
Tajiddin Muwwakkil, the imam at the neighboring Masjid Al-Quaran, was a vocal opponent of the painting, calling it "pornographic and offensive."
Bolster tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/UbBgRD) that a "knee-jerk reaction to a couple of negative voices" led to the controversy.
