A lottery winner has decided to share the wealth with one of his employees in a financial bind.
Cedartown video store owner Ronnie Dingler thought one of his customers might one day win a big jackpot, but he never expected to win himself. However, last week, a losing ticket he entered in a second chance drawing won Dingler $20,000.
Dingler knew what he wanted to do with the cash -- he wanted to keep a promise he made to his cashier Ana Flores to split any winnings evenly.
"She'd been concerned about paying her tuition for college. She's a third-year college student at West Georgia College and she was concerned about buying her books so I told her ‘Don't worry about that now,'" said Dingler.
"It feels good. I don't have to worry about gas money or how to buy my books or having to ask my parents for money to buy my books. It's there for emergencies," said Flores.
Flores says anyone who's surprised by her boss' generosity doesn't know him.
"Ronnie's a really good person and they'd really need to meet Ronnie to know what he's about," said Flores.
Dingler plans to take his portion of the winnings and put it back into his video store business. But the biggest thing for him was being able to help one of his employees who needed the help.
"That was our agreement. If we win, we both win. She even thought I was joking about it. I don't joke," said Dingler.
Flores says that after paying for books and tuition, she plans to put any leftover money into savings in hopes of studying abroad next year in France.
