CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -
The Superintendent of Clayton County Schools, Dr. Edmond T. Heatley, has resigned, according to Clayton County School Board Chair Pam Adamson.
Adamson says Heatley's last day will be September 30. She says Heatley was hired by the Clayton County School District in 2009.
Adamson did not give any reason for Heatley's resignation.
A spokesman for Clayton County schools says the sudden resignation doesn’t come as a complete surprise. He says Heatley had submitted his name for other superintendent jobs outside of Georgia.
During the next few weeks the Clayton County School Board will name an interim superintendent while they search for a replacement.
