North Georgia Zoo offers chance to get close with animals

Posted: Updated:
CLEVELAND, Ga. -

Hidden away in the mountains of North Georgia, near the town of Cleveland, is a zoo that is home to dozens of exotic animals. The North Georgia Zoo gives you the chance to see animals ranging from kangaroos to wolves!

The zoo didn't start out that way, according to Tom Bennett of the North Georgia Zoo.

"About 15 years ago, my wife started collecting reptiles. Hope was into any kinds of animals, but especially the reptiles," said Bennett.

Reptiles led to kangaroos, zebras, and gibbons. After more than a decade of taking the animals out to educate and entertain, the Bennetts now let people in.

"When we go up to the exotic animals, they're with a tour guide, just like they're doing now, and that way they can ask questions," said Bennett.

It's a great way to get up close and personal with the animals, something other zoos rarely offer.
