Behind the scenes of 'Necessary Roughness'

ATLANTA -

Every Wednesday in Good Day's Casting Call segment, we tell you about opportunities to be an extra in an upcoming movie or television production shooting in Atlanta.

This week we take you behind the scenes on the set of the show, Necessary Roughness. Set in New York, but shot in Atlanta, Necessary Roughness is built around a fictional professional football team, where the only thing more dramatic than the action on the field is the action off of it.

Behind the scenes at Screen Gem Studios, at the old Lakewood Fairgrounds, work continues on the second season of the show.  For 19-year-old Patrick Johnson, who plays a trouble making teenager, pursuing his career only three hours from his hometown of Franklin, Tennessee has been a dream come true.

"I would advise someone, if they asked me in Tennessee, what should I do?  Move to Atlanta. To me, it's the new Hollywood. Atlanta, it's the next thing," said Johnson.

From local actors like Travis Scott, who will appear in three episodes next season, to New Yorker Scott Cohen, who plays the team's head of security, it's not only the quality of the production, but also the quality of life in Atlanta that is a major draw.

"What you feel mainly as an actor is the crew, and the crew is hungry and the crew wants you to be here and everybody wants you to be here, and everybody loves that you're here. So you get that vibe, and that's a really kind of satisfying inspiring kind of vibe to get," said Cohen.

"It's an incredible place to go to work. I mean it takes me 15 minutes to get to work here. It's a dream come true. It's amazing. Incredible," said Scott.

Joe Theisman feels the same way.  The former Washington Redskins quarterback plays himself in an upcoming episode, lending a little extra football credibility to the show.

"The venue is comfortable for me. It's just a matter of memorizing lines, but our game plans were usually a little bit longer than the lines, so it all fits into what I've been able to do in my life. I love it. I'm a big TV, movie guy, so it's a lot of fun," said Theisman.

As for what might happen in Wednesday night's mid-season finale, Cohen gave a cryptic clue saying "look forward to people falling down and people getting up again."
