As Isaac barrels across the Gulf, resident in the metro Atlanta area could soon feel its impact at the gas pump.
Not only is the storm driving up demand, as people try to fill up before Isaac hits, but it's only caused a suspension of work on several oil rigs. That has cut oil production in the Gulf by about 24 percent.
According to GasBuddy.com, the real problem will be if Isaac causes widespread power outages.
While it's too early to gauge how long Isaac will slow Gulf oil production, the price at the pump is already higher... and that trend is expected to continue into Labor Day.
Auto club group AAA says Georgia's average price increased 6 cents a gallon last week.
The Gulf provides metro Atlanta's principle source of gasoline. Storms four years ago caused a spike in prices and problems in supplies.
Colonial Pipeline brings millions of gallons of fuel to Metro Atlanta through a pipeline system running from Houston to New York. Colonial's Steve Baker says the company is closely monitoring the storm. He said that the company has backup generators to restore service if any power is lost.
Colonial says most major cities, including Atlanta, usually have a four to five day supply of gasoline.
Meanwhile, most expensive gas in Georgia is already running above $4 a gallon.
