Authorities say hunters scouting for deer stumbled across a well-maintained marijuana patch in northwest Georgia
The Rome News-Tribune reports that the hunters contacted law enforcement immediately after finding the plants Saturday. The land in western Floyd County is owned by Berry College.
Authorities dispatched to the site found 17 plants. Each plant had a mesh enclosure to protect it from hungry deer. Floyd County Sheriff's Deputy Ghee Wilson says some of the plants were about 10 feet tall and were very well taken care of. He estimated the street value of the marijuana at about $45,000.
No arrests were immediately made. The plants were taken to a safe location to be stored until Monday when they will be burned at a remote site on the Walker Mountain Landfill property.
