Memorial service set for first Cobb police chief

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -

A memorial service for a longtime leader in law enforcement is scheduled for Saturday. Robert Hightower, Cobb County's first police chief, died on Tuesday.

Hightower, 78, worked for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation before becoming the first Cobb County police chief in 1972. He was then appointed director of Cobb County Public Safety in 1993. The former Navy SEAL also served as colonel of the Georgia State Patrol, Georgia public safety director and chairman of Georgia Homeland Security.

Saturday's memorial service will be held at Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta at 11 a.m.
