Jeff Turner wins Clayton Co. Commission Chairman runoff

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -

Former Clayton County Police Chief Jeff Turner defeated incumbent Clayton County Commission Chairman Eldrin Bell on Tuesday.

Turner led by more than 8,000 votes with 98 percent of the precincts counted.

Two years ago, Turner was the popular police chief. Bell and the Clayton County Commission demoted him and eliminated his position. Turner insisted that the victory was not about payback or retribution.

"It's not about getting back at anybody. It's about wanting to do something for this county to push this county forward. I'm not the type of person who is going to sit down and not do anything about it… I wanted to be in the position where I can affect positive change in Clayton County," said Turner.

Bell, who was seeking a third term as commission chair, conceded defeat late Tuesday.

"We fought a good race. It's been a privilege to serve the people of Clayton County. I've served them with honor. I've tried to bring them dignity and respect to that office, and I leave it in good standing and good stead," said Bell.
