Complaints: Ga. agencies not complying with law

ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia's Immigration Enforcement Review Board has received a complaint that many city and county government agencies are not complying with a key part of the state's new anti-illegal immigration law.

Filed by illegal immigration-activist D.A. King, the complaint cites a requirement in Georgia's immigration law that government employers with two or more employees file annual reports certifying they and their public works contractors are using E-Verify. That's a federal program that helps confirm newly hired employees are eligible to work in the United States.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (http://bit.ly/RbYSWj ) the state Department of Audits and Accounts has sent letters to about 1,190 government agencies, telling them they failed to file reports by the Dec. 31 deadline. On the list were cities, counties and downtown development, hospital and housing authorities.
