COLUMBUS, Ga. -
A pilot has died in a plane crash at a west central Georgia airport on Saturday morning.
Authorities say the pilot of an experimental plane was practicing approaches around 10:40 a.m. Saturday and had just completed a touch and go when the plane started to experience engine problems.
The pilot declared an emergency and headed back tot he Columbus Metropolitan Airport when it suddenly plunged nose first into a grassy field just before the runway.
Authorities identify the pilot as being 71-year-old George Wade. They say he died at the scene.
