Search and recovery crews suspended their search for a man who went missing after jumping into Lake Lanier off a sailboat on Saturday.
An official with the Hall County Sheriff's Office tells FOX 5 News that a 44-year-old man jumped into waters as deep as 140 feet around 12:30 a.m. Saturday and did not resurface. The boat at the time was near the Lake Lanier Islands.
Georgia Department of Resources Sgt. Mike Burgamy tells the Associated Press that the man was on the sailboat with a woman and another couple before he vanished beneath the water. He says they may have been drinking.
Officials were searching an area less than a quarter mile near the Lake Lanier Islands. They say they had to suspend the search on Saturday due to the high volume of traffic on the lake. They are expected to be out on the water again Sunday to continue the search and recovery mission.
Investigators for Hall County say they are withholding the man's name at this time. The incident remains under investigation.
