Police in multiple jurisdictions searched and secured several movie theaters across metro Atlanta and north Georgia on Friday.
Atlanta police say a caller phoned in a threat to Carmike Cinema's corporate office in Columbus, Ga. with an unspecified threat. They say they believe the caller is a former employee.
Authorities then conducted sweeps at several theaters, including the ones in Snellville and Cartersville, but it doesn't appear anything suspicious was found.
On Thursday, police in Columbus, Ga. arrested a 23-year-old man for bringing a concealed weapon into a Carmike Cinemas theater.
Police conducting security checks said they found a loaded gun and several knives inside a bag Josh Vardeman was carrying.
A bomb squad later discovered more ammunition and a hunting knife in his car.
Police say it doesn't appear Varderman intended to harm anyone and there doesn't seem to be any connection to the bomb threat, which was phoned in a few hours before Vaderman's arrest.
