A historic Stockbridge home purposely went up in flames on Thursday.
The Hightower House was built before the Civil War and at one point it was the only medical facility in the area. Stockbridge city officials say they are destroying it to make room for improvements in the city. The blaze doubled as a training exercise for firefighters
The fire was lit by a member of the family that owned the home.

A judge has sentenced Michael Parson to the maximum of 35 years in jail for the attempted murder of his wife. On Thursday, Parson was convicted of shooting his wife, Adina, eight times in 2012.
