GAINESVILLE, Ga. -

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee talked with FOX 5 about a variety of topics ranging from Chick-fil-A to the nastiness of the presidential campaign.

Huckabee was Gainesville, Ga. on Thursday for a Mitt Romney fundraiser. He said that he was shocked over the turn-out and record sales when he declared August 1 to be "Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day."

He believes the show of support illustrates where Americans stand when it comes to, "Heavy-handed, brutal intolerance being practiced by mayors of some American cities."

Huckabee said negative campaigning can be a turnoff for voters.

"I think it makes people cynical – when the campaign gets so nasty as with Obama campaign with Joe Biden's overheated, over the top rhetoric, talking about putting people back in chains. Even Democrats like Santita Jackson, the daughter of Jessie Jackson, have decried that as unacceptable and disgusting," said Huckabee.

Huckabee says negative campaigning can be risky because ultimately it makes voters want to stay home and not vote.

Huckabee said he was 100 percent behind Romney.
